Green Team’s Sustainable Suggestions, with thanks to Bridging the Gap:
- Save an average of about 50 gallons of water a week by not over watering your lawn.
- Water in the morning or evening which is better for the plants — and you’ll waste less water through evaporation.
- Water your lawn and plants during the cool of the morning and evening instead of the heat of the day. Doing so reduces evaporation and saves an average of 50 gallons of water per week.
- Move your thermostat three degrees. Every three degrees (up in the summer and down in winter) can help prevent the emission of almost 1,100 pounds of CO2 annually.
- Buy fresh, local produce and organic products as often as possible. This helps reduce the amount of fuel needed to transport across the country and avoids pesticide use.
- Recycle your used glass containers at a Ripple Glass recycling collection site. Ripple Glass is a local community effort to recycle glass and to produce energy-efficient fiberglass at a local facility. To find one near your home, visit www.rippleglasskc.com.
